ACU&S Qualification - A first for NTCA

NTCA is extremely pleased to announce that Kamal Merchant of the North Texas Cricket Association recently sat and duly passed the qualifying examination for umpires set by the international body, The Association of Cricket Umpires & Scorers, headquartered in London.   The examination consists of a 4 hour paper covering questions relating to all 42 laws of cricket; their interpretation and their use based on specific sets of circumstances.   It is a tremendous achievement for Kamal and all of NTCA is proud of his commitment and effort in passing.   The next step for Kamal, having shown that he is duly qualified in knowledge and application of the laws of cricket is to satisfy ACU & S Council of a sufficiently high standard of practical competence on the field of play over a minimum period of 2 years.   This is done by ACU & S obtaining comprehensive references from persons who have umpired with Kamal, during that 2 year period and at least one of those references has to be an already qualified umpire member of the Association.   The complete file then goes before Council who if they feel it appropriate will admit Kamal from the current position of associate to a ‘qualified member’.

Now the question to be asked – which member will be next from NTCA to follow this path?   Congratulations once again to Kamal.
